Frequently Used Spanglish
- Almirante- dingy port town, former home of Chiquita Banana. Dirty and sketchy, but has internet, markets, and boats to Bocas
- Bocas Island, Isla Colon- Main tourist destination for Panama. 25 minutes boat ride from Almirante.
- Cacao- cocoa plant, main source of income for farmers in my area
- campesino or paisano- country folk, farmer
- Campo - country, rural
- Changuinola - biggest city, 80 minutes from my site by bus. Current home of Chiquita Banana
- Finca - farm, property
- Plata - money (or also silver)
- pescado- pronounced pes-COW, fish
- poco a poco - little by little
- quebrada- creek
- Se fue el agua/Llegó agua - The water went out, the water (lit.) arrived/came back. Essential aqueduct phrases.
